OAKLAND PARK, Fla. (WSVN) -- A garbage truck fire has caused major traffic delays on a South Florida highway.

The blaze began on the northbound lanes of Interstate 95, between Oakland Park and Commercial Boulevards, Tuesday. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the fire ignited in the engine compartment of the garbage truck. The truck driver was able to jump out of the burning vehicle and was not injured. As rescue crews responded to the scene, traffic came to a standstill. Soon after fire crews extinguished the blaze, traffic that normally travel on six lanes was allowed to get by on the shoulder only. All lanes have since reopened.
